Almost a year ago BSO reported that Jamaican sprinter Asafa Powell tested positive for a banned substance. Well, according to a story courtesy BBC Sport, the former 100m world record holder has received his punishment and will now be banned from competing for 18 months after failing to pass drug tests.
The Jamaican sprinter, 31, took the banned stimulant oxilofrine at last year’s national championships but the suspension has been backdated and will end on 20 December, 2014.
Powell called the ruling “unfair and unjust”, and said a legal supplement he took, Epiphany D1, was contaminated.
He plans to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
Powell and fellow Jamaican sprinter Sherone Simpson, received their bans from a three-person disciplinary panel and will miss the Commonwealth Games in July.
