Jim Buss Says He’ll Quit if Lakers Suck, But Not For a Few Years
Lakers fans might be very happy to hear this news. Owner and EVP Jim Buss has a short rebuilding plan for the team. Yet, if they don’t rebuild and “contend” in three or four years, he says he will step down according to the LA Times:
I was laying myself on the line by saying, if this doesn’t work in three to four years, if we’re not back on the top — and the definition of top means contending for the Western Conference, contending for a championship — then I will step down because that means I have failed. I don’t know if you can fire yourself if you own the team … but what I would say is I’d walk away and you guys figure out who’s going to run basketball operations because I obviously couldn’t do the job.
So either the Lakers are back in the championship mix in three years or they get rid of the man they blame for not bringing Phil back and hiring Mike D’Antoni?
I think 95% of Lakers fans will sign up for that deal right now.
