Most of us know that “Royals” song by Lorde because we have heard it 4 million times on the radio. What you may not know is that song was actually inspired by Kansas City Royals legend George Brett. Here is the story from the Kansas City Star:
Last year she told VHI that she saw a photo in National Geographic “of this dude just signing baseballs. He was a baseball player and his shirt said, ‘Royals.’ It was just that word. It’s really cool.”
Turned out that dude signing baseballs, in a photo published in July 1976, was Kansas City’s Hall of Fame third baseman.
Lorde tried to meet Brett before her Kansas City concert but scheduling conflicts couldn’t make it happen. Now her people got with his people and they made it happen before her recent show in Vegas. This is all very random but a pretty cool story.
