Report: Lakers Resisting Picking Up D’Antoni’s Contract Option

Mike D’Antoni doesn’t want to go into the 2014-2015 season as a lame duck coach. He would like the Lakers to pick up his option for 2015-2016. According to Marc Spears’ sources, the Lakers are resisting:

I understand this from both sides actually. It makes sense from D’Antoni’s point of view that he doesn’t want to be a lame duck. He can use the injury excuse and say he deserves an extra year. From the team’s perspective, his squads have been awful especially by Lakers standards so they can play a wait and see game.
