Well this is welcome news for fans out in Salt Lake City. The Utah Jazz are not considered one of the premier free agent destinations, and aside from Karl Malone and John Stockton, generally struggle to keep star players on their team long-term.
In this past year’s draft, the Jazz made a great trade that allowed them to get Trey Burke out of Michigan with the 9th pick. This was definitely a steal as Burke was considered a player that could go as high as number 2.
Burke has turned out to be another great young Jazz player, joining Derrick Favors and Enis Kanter as the future of Utah basketball.
And according to Spencer Chekkets of 1280 Sports in Utah, if it’s up to Burke he’ll be a member of the Jazz for a long time to come.

For a Jazz team that was basically forced to trade then-star point guard Deron Williams because he did not want to be in Utah long-term, this is definitely a great sign.
Small market teams need to organically build their teams through the draft if they aren’t an ideal locale to attract star free agents. It seems the Jazz have one of their building blocks ready to stick around for the long haul.
