Neither the UK men’s or women’s teams took home the NCAA tournament title, but that doesn’t mean their coaches aren’t still winning.
Based on a compensation plan with built in incentives for tournament performance, Kentucky’s basketball coaches will take home nearly $800k in bonuses.
The University of Kentucky will pay about $792,000 to its men’s and women’s basketball coaches after the postseason, in which the women made it to the NCAA Sweet 16 and the men got to the NCAA title game.
The men’s coaches will collect $663,530, with the remaining $128,937 going to the women’s coaches. UK men’s Coach John Calipari gets $350,000.
Just like in any other corporate structure where employees are compensated based on performance, coaches are privy to the same perks when they have successful seasons. The only ones not compensated based on performance are the ones that need it the most.
