Could the Washington Redskins actually be headed towards a nickname change?

Fox Sports is reporting fifty U.S. Senators have signed a letter to the NFL urging the league to pressure the Redskins to change their nickname.

The senators stated that the use of the name is “a racial slur” and that they “urge the NFL to formally support a name change for the Washington football team.”

Senator Maria Cantwell, Democrat of Washington, wold prefer that the NFL follows the same course of discipline that the NBA handed down in dealing with Donald Sterling.

“We are going to find out if the NFL can act against this kind of discrimination as quickly as the NBA did,” Cantwell said.
