David Beckham pitched a seemingly great idea for an extravagant, new soccer stadium, but marine lovers may have something to say about the project. The Coral Morphologic cofounder Colin Foorde came forward claiming that there was a whole colony of marine life that already used the FEC boat slip, where the stadium project is supposed to be built.
We’ve got lobsters, green moray eels, and phosphorescent brain coral down there, right along Biscayne Boulevard,” he says.
Beckham’s people originally dismissed Foorde’s claims, but the marine biologist has come forward with video footage proving his claims. The FEC boat slip has some murky waters, but you can clearly see nature under the water. Foorde isn’t against building the stadium. He feels that it would be fine if Beckham would simply build another artificial reef nearby. This doesn’t seem like an unreasonably request, depending on your view of how important marine life really is.
“People should know what’s down there,” Foord says. “They need to be informed when deciding when to fill it or not. If the voters decide to fill it, it’s a very reasonable caveat to say to the developers: ‘Look, taxpayers paid all this money for this. There has to be mitigation.’“
