The Browns had their rookie minicamp today and of course all eyes were on Heisman winning QB Johnny Manziel. Now since this isn’t his first rodeo with the media, he has this to say after practice today via Cleveland.com:
“I’m a rookie. I need to earn my place. I need to earn my keep. Nothing here needs to be handed to me. I don’t need to be treated based off what I’ve done in the past because that doesn’t mean a thing at this level. I was completely okay with hearing that from everybody. I don’t want to come in and have anything handed to me that I don’t deserve.”
The likelihood of Johnny saying something stupid in a media session isn’t that high since he is used to dealing with intense media scrutiny. This type of thing will make him a bit more liked in the locker room with his veteran teammates as well. Smart play by Johnny. He is right though, he got passed up 21 times so he should be slightly humble.
