Report: Alex Smith Wants $18M Per Season From Chiefs

We can all formally thank Jay Cutler for every starting quarterback in the league feeling they deserve a big money contract.

The Chiefs and Alex Smith are currently at odds about his exact worth to the club.  According to reports, Smith wants to be paid like a franchise quarterback.  Kansas City feels like Smith is a second-tier type player, and would like to lower the number.

Jason Cole is reporting that Smith wants a contract comparable to the seven-year, $126 million deal Jay Cutler received from the Chicago Bears.

Alex Smith on his best day isn’t worth $18 million a season, and might be served best by letting the Chiefs place the franchise tag on him, thus ensuring that Smith would be paid in the range of the top-10 quarterback salaries in the NFL.
