Now that Steve Kerr turned the down the Knicks offer to be their next head coach, Phil Jackson must look to his backup plan. The early reports of who is on the short list might not get Knicks fans too excited. According to Marc Stein, Luke Walton, Tyronn Lue, and Derek Fisher are all under consideration:
Three candidates who will thus receive consideration from Jackson, sources said, are Luke Walton and Tyronn Lue — former players under Jackson who have already begun their coaching careers — as well as Oklahoma City Thunder guard Derek Fisher— if Fisher elects to stop playing after this season as he has hinted.
If these are the people they are looking at, there is no doubt that all Phil wants is a puppet that he can control. It’s one thing to hire a coach that has a similar philosophy as you but it is a completely different thing to completely reach on a guy.
I will be interested to see Knicks fans reaction.
