The New York Times is reporting that the U.S. Sprinter has been suspended one year for doping. Gay tested positive for a banned substance last July and subsequently removed himself from competing at the World Championships in Moscow.
Gay has also returned the silver medal he won with the U.S. 4×100 meters relay team at the London Olympics and been disqualified from all races he contested from July 2012.
The suspension is retroactive to last year, so he’ll be eligible to race again this June.
Gay is currently the U.S. record-holder in the 100-meter dash. Only Usain Bolt has a faster time in the event than Gay’s 9.69 seconds mark
