‘The Spider’ is cleared and looking to regain his post at the top of the Middleweight division.
Anderson Silva took to twitter to let all of his fans know that he was close to 100% and is looking to get back into the Octagon.
“Good news today, guys: Dr. Marcio Tannure released me for my first sparring after my leg fracture,” said Silva in Portuguese via Twitter.
Silva should be ready by the end of 2014 and his opponent may already be decided. UFC President Dana White mentioned that the semi-retired Nate Diaz would be willing to come back to fight Silva. The fight would be one of the biggest events of the year.
“I know they want it,” White on Thursday told MMAjunkie following a media day for Saturday’s UFC 174 card in Vancouver. “I think that’s a very interesting fight, so we’ll see what happens.”
“Anderson isn’t coming back until December,” White said. “It’s far enough that I don’t need to talk to him yet. If Anderson wants to fight Nick, and Nick wants to fight Anderson, why would I say no?”
The only problem with that is the two division weight difference between Nick Diaz and Anderson Silva. It’d be shocking if Anderson came back at the in-between 170 lb weight.
“I think it would be tough for Anderson to make 170,” White said. “A few years ago, he was saying he could do it, but I don’t know about now. He’s not getting any younger. It might be the end of this year, or it could be next year. I don’t know.”
I know fans of MMA are just happy to get a glimpse of one of the best fighters the sport has ever seen. Silva’s amazing career should end on his terms and not with an unfortunate injury.
