Greg Smith sat down with Yuriorkis Gamboa ahead of his title fight on Saturday June 28th at the Century Link Center in Omaha, NE against Terence Crawford. The fight will be aired live on HBO and is being put on by Top Rank.
On his experience taking in the College World Series:
I was there just for a little bit to soak in the moment and I enjoyed it thoroughly.
On how ring rust could effect the fight since he hasn’t fought in a year:
In all honestly, I don’t think it’s going to effect me at all in the least but. In the first part of training camp, I felt we did enough work to address the concern of ring rust. So I feel like we have eliminated that concern.
On the benefits from working with Floyd Mayweather Sr:
The defense. He helped me out a lot of that. Also the work on different types of counter punches and combinations.
On how being promoted by 50 Cent has impacted his career:
On the publicity and marketing side he has helped a lot. Obviously he has helped opened up a market that maybe I wasn’t open to prior to this. He has definitely play a positive role.
On if fighting in Crawford’s home town could help Gamboa because Terence could be distracted:
Really I’m honestly not even concerned with that. I’m just focusing on what I worked on during this training camp and getting in the ring on June 28th, then doing what I need to do to get the win.
We would like to thank Yuriorkis for taking the time for the interview. Make sure to check out his title fight Saturday night vs Terence Crawford live on HBO at 9:00 pm. The fight will be at the CenturyLink Center in Omaha. Tickets are available here.
