When England scored their first goal soon after Italy scored theirs, the team went into a celebratory frenzy, typical of World Cup soccer. The only damper on the festivities, a serious ankle injury for the team’s head physiotherapist:

Via Bleacher Report:

Lewin was at the bottom of a pile of bodies as Sturridge and the team came together on the touchlines, and as the celebration died down it came to light that he had been hurt. After several minutes of treatment he was stretchered off, a strange twist in a thrilling clash in Manaus, Brazil.

Though it’s very unlikely that Lewin’s departure contributed to England’s 2-1 defeat, it is however unfortunate nonetheless.
