Ok so I’ve caught my breath and now I’m ready to do this.
First off let’s just skip the first half, not because it was boring but because it paled in comparison to what took place in the second.
Both teams came out of their dressing rooms determined to take the game by the scruff of the neck and the Germans were the first ones over the hill in that regard when forward Mario Goetze sprang loose from his defender to head home the first goal.
The Ghanaians were stunned as an early elimination now stared them in the face, but then this moment of insanity happened.
I guess it could be argued that the pitch invader helped settle the Black Stars because a few minutes following that incident they would strike back through midfielder Andre Ayew.
The equalizing goal seemed to give the Ghanaians a boost of energy and confidence as the continued to apply consistent pressure to the German defense and not too long after they took the lead.
Forward Asomoah Gyan used his speed to evade German defender Per Mertesacker and power the ball beyond the reach of goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, making him the first African player to score in three World Cups.
You can tell that the Ghanaian players were really pleased with themselves.
The The Black Stars’ joy was short lived though, because in the 71st minute substitute and German legend Miroslav Klose scored his 15th World Cup goal which tied him for most overall with Brazilian striker Ronaldo.
Both teams pushed for a winner in the last 20 minutes of the game but it wasn’t meant to be as the game would end 2-2. Ghana would be disappointed that they let three points slip away but if things go their way they can still qualify with a win over a Portugal team that seems to be in turmoil.
The Germans on the other hand will be pleased with their position as a win or draw with the USA should see them through to the knockout stage.
