Hall of Fame quarterback, Jim Kelly’s cancer recovery took a turn for the better tonight. Mark Gaughan of the Buffalo News reports he was finally released from Erie County Medical Center, in Buffalo this afternoon.
Kelly, 54, underwent a six-week, grueling regimen of chemotherapy after a recurrence of jaw cancer earlier this year. His last treatment was May 15th and he’d been in ECMC in buffalo recovering.
His brother, Dan Kelly spoke to the media about his release:
“He’s excited about getting home. We’re really excited for him and he’s glad to get going on the road to recovery.”
Kelly’s doctors have said that he must wait two to three months to determine the effectiveness of the treatments and what the next steps will be.
Good news for Jim Kelly. The positivity from being around familiar people and love is sure to help continue to build his spirits.
