NBC is looking to cash in on the biggest event in television this year by asking for $4.5 million from advertisers for 30 second Super Bowl spots, according to Variety.
Compare that number to Fox’s $4 million asking price last year and CBS’ $3.7 million the year before and it seems as though NBC is tired of being humble. The half a million dollar raise in price seems to be following the trend of sports inflation occurring all over the world. It falls in line with the over-priced purchase of the Clippers, the record setting transfer fees in soccer, and crazy contracts for ageing players in baseball.
There’s money to be spent in sports and NBC is making sure that they get these advertisers for every last penny.
