Vernon Davis: I’m Not Losing Sleep Over My Contract

Vernon Davis has to make up his mind on whether or not a new contract is really that important to him.  Davis has skipped OTAs and a minicamp, while forfeiting a few hundred thousand in workout bonuses.

Davis told The Atlanta Journal Constitution that he’s not losing any sleep over his contract.

“It’s not the end of the world if I don’t get (a new contract),” Davis told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Thursday. “If I get it, that’s good. It’s moving slowly, but surely.

“At the end of the day, if I don’t get the deal, at least I tried and I put my foot down. If I don’t get it at the moment, I’m not going to lose any sleep.”

Davis is a supporter of Jimmy Graham’s position that they are hybrid guys and should be paid like wide receivers, and not tight ends.  According to Spotrac, Davis is the seventh highest paid tight end in football.

Davis has two years remaining on the five-year, $36 million deal he signed.  He received a $10 million signing bonus at that time.  If the contract really isn’t a big deal to Davis, then why holdout and cost yourself money in the first?
