The stage is set for the championship series in the College World Series. The Vanderbilt Commadores and Virginia Cavaliers are the final two teams standing in the College World Series in Omaha.
The preseason top ranked Cavaliers beat Ole Miss on Saturday in a game that was suspended due to the really bad storms that left the field looking like this:
When play resumed, the Hoos let their pitching shine and do the work. Josh Sborz, Artie Lewicki, and Nick Howard combined to allow jut 5 hits and give up one run. Virginia heads into the championship series holding opponents to a .147 average and have allowed two earned runs in three games. They are the best team in college baseball this season and we just have to see if they can seal the deal.
It won’t be easy though because Vanderbilt was the second favorite team coming into the CWS. They got here by outlasting Texas 4-3 on a walkoff infield single. Only at TD Ameritrade would we be discussing a walkoff single to send a team to the title series. With Vandy’s appearance in the title game, it marks the 7th straight year that a SEC team will make the championship series.
