According to promoter Eddie Hearn, Carl Froch has been told that a fight against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr would be slated as a HBO PPV, while a fight against Gennady ‘GGG’ Golovkin would not be a PPV.
Froch is coming off of a good win over George Groves but he hasn’t shown huge star potential in the US and Chavez Jr has a decent name but he hasn’t shown the ability to be the main draw as a PPV fighter.
I’m sure GGG’s performance last week has fighters such as Froch questioning if it is worth it to fight him at this point. Froch will get an easier fight and a bigger pay day by fighting Chavez Jr. so there’s no reason to fight GGG right now.
The fights will most likely occur in January 2015, with the winner set up for a big summer fight against a fighter such as ‘GGG.’
