How strange is this?
Maarten de Jonge a cyclist with Malaysia’s Terengganu Cycling Team avoided tragedy not once, but twice by simply changing his travel plans to compete in races at the last minute.
Back in March, he was supposed to be on the Malaysian Airlines flight that mysteriously disappeared and has yet to be found, but was able to change his flight to one that didn’t require any layovers.
He was also supposed to be on the Malaysian Airlines flight that was shot down over the Ukraine, but decided to postpone his trip until this weekend. As you can imagine, he is feeling very lucky, but put things in the proper perspective.
“How happy I am for myself and my family that I was on this flight and did not take it the last moment; my story is ultimately nothing compared to the misery in which so many people are paid,” de Jonge wrote in Dutch. “Attention should be paid to the victims and survivors. Wishing everyone affected by this disaster a lot of strength.”
“I have been lucky twice,” he reportedly said.
He says he will continue to fly Malaysian Airlines, but this is straight out of a movie and very spooky.
