If you’re on the lam and trying to maintain a low profile after jumping bail, it’s probably not best to give your opinion on the Washington Redskins controversial name change, even if it’s to a small, local newspaper. Jacob Close skipped bail in Ithaca, New York, following charges on drugs and drunk driving, but when the Bloomsburg Press-Enterprise (Pennsylvania) asked his opinion on the touchy subject recently, the 25-year-old thought his response was so witty he agreed to let the paper publish his name and picture.
Needless to say it didn’t take long for him to get spotted by Bloomsburg University campus police, who alerted Ithaca City Police, who eventually caught up with Close and took him into custody. Still, as dumb as he was to get caught this way, you gotta respect the guy’s “I think they should keep the same name, but change the mascot to a potato” line. That may be the best response to the Redskins controversy I’ve ever heard.
