The Iowa Hawkeyes are looking at a pretty weak home schedule this upcoming football season, so they’re doing everything in their power to attract fans to the stadium. According to the Iowa City Press-Citizen, the school will randomly select five students that buy season tickets and give them free tuition for the upcoming year.
Students have the option of a 6-game or 7-game season ticket package with tickets running $25 per game. The school’s athletic director, Gary Barta, spoke on what was the impetus for the offer.
“We want students in Kinnick Stadium, and the staff has spent the year listening and planning ways to increase the fun and excitement. A loud and active student section is such an important part of the game day experience.”
Altogether the scholarship will be worth about $8K in school fees based on in-state tuition costs, but this is an offer that you can’t really pass up. Anyone student or former student knows the hassles of worrying about tuition expenses is the last thing anyone wants to be thinking about. There are consolation prizes for the students who don’t win the free year tuition, totaling 11 prizes in all.
One student will win an away game viewing party inside the Paul W.Brechler Press Box
One student will receive up to $500 in free books
Four students will be winners of a $1,000 gift card to Hy-Vee
All in all, it’s a pretty good marketing strategy by the school and seems like a win-win for everyone.
