With LeBron James re-joining the Cleveland Cavaliers this off-season, focus has now shifted to the impending free agency of OKC Thunder superstar Kevin Durant. While the reigning MVP is still two years away from his own free agency, James going home has people talking about Durant making a homecoming of his own.
For those who don’t know, KD hails from Washington D.C., and recently has indicated that he will explore all free agent options, and rumors are already swirling that the five-time All-Star could be joining his hometown Wizards. This has current Wizards All-Star John Wall already salivating over his team bringing the MVP in according to USA Today.
“It’s not a bad (idea) at all,” Wall told USA TODAY Sports about the idea of Durant eventually adopting James’ homecoming strategy. “Two of the best guys in the East going head to head four times a year? It’d be pretty exciting. You just sit back and watch and see what happens, but (the Wizards’ Durant-motivated moves) definitely lets him know that we want him around.”
Those Durant-motivated moves that Washington is making include ensuring they clear enough cap space to make a run at the forward. Oh, and hiring his old high school basketball coach.
Get ready for the Durant madness folks, it’s coming for the next two years.
