They say the only 2 guarantees in life are death and taxes–apparently Barcelona star, Lionel Messi, will learn that firsthand.
A Spanish court will proceed in their charges against the world famous athlete, along with his father, Jorge Messi, for failing to pay about $5.5 million in taxes. Apparently Jorge Messi has a long history of tax evasion, and there are claims that Lionel had no idea what his father was up to.
In June of 2013, the two were accused of concealing the total amount of endorsement money Lionel had received, and Jorge Messi paid more than $5 million to cover up back taxes from 2007-2009 .
Prosecutors also allege Jorge of having set up Messi’s endorsement income to be transferred to shell corporations, in countries like Belize and Honduras. Jorge has accepted full responsibility for his crime, affirming that his son had no knowledge of wrongdoing.
Now the Spanish court jurors have 10 days to decide if Lionel was in on this or throw away the charges against him.
