How can J.R. Smith win a competition in the tub?
According to Mike Woodson and the New York Knicks, it’s absolutely possible.
ESPN.com is reporting that Woodson will hold an open competition for the shooting guard position between Smith and the versatile Iman Shumpert.
Woodson said Shumpert has the edge in the competition right now because Smith is still rehabbing from knee surgery on his left knee.
“I’m going to let [Smith and Shumpert] fight it out,” Woodson said.
The way Woodson explains it, he wants Smith to shoot for more than just being a quality sixth man.
“I want him to be past that Sixth Man,” Woodson said. “Let somebody else get the Sixth Man if he deserves to get that starting job. Last year was last year.”
Shumpert has the look of a true professional, and as expected said he’d have no problem coming off the bench.
