This is a different kind of rumor, but one that could take on a life of its own if Carmelo Anthony and LeBron James continue with their silence.
The New York Post is reporting that Carmelo Anthony’s dream scenario would be to remain a New York Knick, and have LeBron James join him in Madison Square Garden.
According to a friend of Anthony’s, Melo has held out faint hope Knicks president Phil Jackson can pull a miracle and clear out the necessary salary-cap space to get it done, but he is running out of time. Anthony’s decision could come in the next couple of days.
“He really wants LeBron to come to New York,’’ the source said. “That’s his dream right now. Phil is trying to get it done.’’
The Knicks of course would need to make the necessary cap space to make such a dream a reality. Phil Jackson has reportedly had conversations with the 76ers about trading Amar’e Stoudemire and Iman Shumpert to Philly for draft picks.
