When we are talking about equality and respecting people’s beliefs it goes both ways. If someone doesn’t agree with homosexuality that doesn’t make them homophobic. As long as they are treating that person with respect and equally then they are entitled to their beliefs. Your beliefs are yours, regardless if someone believes in them or not. Your opinions are yours, doesn’t matter if they aren’t the mainstream opinion.
Tony Dungy has always been outspoken about his religious beliefs, so even if you don’t agree with them, try to respect them, just like you would want someone to respect yours.
Here is what he had to say about drafting Michael Sam via CBS Sports.
“I wouldn’t have taken him,” Dungy told the Tampa Bay Times. “Not because I don’t believe Michael Sam should have a chance to play, but I wouldn’t want to deal with all of it.
“It’s not going to be totally smooth … things will happen.”
Things are definitely going to happen, they have already happened, but the Rams knew that in advance (besides the Oprah stuff) and chose to draft Sam any way.
I just hope he is treated equally and that means if he isn’t good enough he isn’t kept around just because it is good PR.
