I honestly don’t know why someone thought this was a good idea to begin with. Harvey Updyke’s appearance at a charity event to raise money for cancer has been canceled after social media death threats and hopefully someone coming to their senses. If you are unfamiliar with Mr. Updyke, he is the Bama fan who famously poisoned the trees at Auburn and confessed to doing it live on the Finebaum radio show.
He served some time in jail and is free now. So Harvey was supposed to be either hit in the face with pie or in a dunk booth for a Sept. 29 charity event in Mobile, Alabama, but the organizers have pulled the plug. Somehow Dee Dee Bonner and Katherine Webb ended up with social media threats too because everything is always about them. Here is a statement from Dee Dee:
“It seems to be taking away from the primary purpose, which is raising awareness for children’s cancer,” Bonner said. “We don’t want to take away from the focus. We needed to get away from it.”
This was an awful idea to begin with so it is for the best that they pulled the plug.
