Kovalev is hell-bent on being the best light heavyweight in boxing, and will get the chance to to prove his worth during a scheduled world title unification bout with Bernard Hopkins in November.
First the man known as ‘Krusher’ will have to get by the sneaky talented Blake Carapello. Kovalev sat down with BlackSportsOnline recently to discuss his Saturday night bout on HBO.

BSO: How has this training camp been for you Sergey?
SK: It’s been excellent. I’m ready to go, I’m prepared to win and I’ve worked hard.
BSO: Your opponent, Blake Carapello is undefeated as a boxer. Can you tell us how you prepare for Carapello and what you expect?
SK: I know nothing about my opponent on Saturday. I’ve seen a couple of rounds of his fights, that’s it.
BSO: You are considered one of the rising stars in the sport. Is there any pressure to put on a great performance, or even score a knockout?
SK: No, there’s no pressure. I’m going in to win and am only focused on winning? “No, I don’t feel pressure. I feel pressure only for my family. I am responsible for my family.”
BSO: Do you think you’re the best light heavyweight in the world right now, Sergey?
SK: Yes
