Another tragic incident involving a sneakerhead occurred last weekend.
Jealousy and greed drove Dari Max Garcia, an ex-con, to kill a young man Richard Catalano. Richard posted the above photo on Facebook after selling some sneakers at a convention. Garcia saw this photo and deemed it enough to risk his future and Catalano’s life over.
Here are the detials of the story according to TheShoeGame.com:
Richard Catalano, 26, attended the Rhode Island Sneaker Exchange on Sunday, August 17th with plenty of heat and left with tons of cash in hand. Soon after returning home, Richard took a photo (pictured above) of his stacks and posted it to his Facebook. Later that evening an armed man by the name of Dari Max Garcia broke into the house of Catalano opening fire leaving Richard fatally wounded. After Garcia gunned down Richard, he demanded to know where the money was.
The plan to rob the money was ruined by Catalano’s Mother who attacked Garcia only to have her finger bitten off and eventually shot in the shoulder. The only person Garcia had yet to find was Richard’s Girlfriend who recounts the following:
“The guy who came in, it was like he was on something. Just shooting. Who shoots? And says ‘Where’s the money? I saw him enter and I saw a gun and I just hid on the side of the bed with the puppies and tried not to let him see me and he saw me and he was about to shoot me but I got to crawl out just in time.” – Richard’s Girlfriend
Richard’s Girlfriend choses to remain unnamed, but luckily she was able to escape safely. As for Dari Garcia, he shot himself in the face as Police entered the house. His failed suicide currently has him in the Hospital under critical condition. Catalano’s Mother is also being treated for her wounds and will make it out okay.
This is a horribly sad turn of events and it never sits well when I have to report on a person that’s lost their life over something so trivial. I know people may get excited when they get a large sum of money or sell a lot of sneakers but remember that jealousy brings the worst out of some people and you never know what someone else may do to get what you have.
Sneakerheads be mindful of what you post on social media.
