The NFL is fully aware of the opportunities that come to celebrities who perform during the Super Bowl. Now, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal, they are allegedly asking future acts for compensation in order to become the featured act.
The NFL has narrowed down the list of potential performers for the 2015 Super Bowl to three candidates: Rihanna, Katy Perry, and Coldplay, these people said. While notifying the artists’ camps of their candidacy, league representatives also asked at least some of the acts if they would be willing to contribute a portion of their post-Super Bowl tour income to the league, or if they would make some other type of financial contribution, in exchange for the halftime gig.
In previous years the NFL has not paid its Super Bowl performers. They do however pay for their set and in return the performer receives a large amount of publicity in front of a worldwide audience. The question now is how this will affect future halftime performances at the Super Bowl.
Personally I feel like it’s pretty awkward to ask superstars like Rihanna and Coldplay to give you money so that they can provide the service for which they’re so famous for. This just proves that there is no limit to the NFL owners’ greed.
