Washington Redskins 2014 4th round draft pick Bashaud Breeland was cited for marijuana possession on Monday night at the Virginia Commonwealth University campus. The team was scheduled to end their training camp in Richmond on Tuesday, which is where VCU’s campus is located. It’s actually pretty sad that Breeland couldn’t stay focused long enough to let this stage of camp end.
Breeland, 22, was issued a summons for simple possession of marijuana at 10:40 p.m. by Edwin Alvarez, a VCU Police Department officer. No additional information was made available by a campus police department spokeswoman, citing pending adjudication. A hearing is scheduled for Aug. 26.
Breeland did practice with the team on Tuesday before the team was given Wednesday off. The Redskins resume workouts on Thursday at the team’s regular facility in Ashburn. A Redskins did issue a statement that they were aware of the situation but would make no comment at this time. Breeland’s agent has also chosen not to respond to numerous requests for a statement.
Per the NFL’s substance abuse policy, commissioner Roger Goodell will be the one to pass Breeland’s disciple if he is convicted in this case. This is not a good look for the rookie cornerback.
