Ray Rice has had an interesting off-season to say the least. And by interesting I mean incredibly terrible.
First, Rice was indicted for Street Fighter uppercutting his then-fiancee and now-wife a few months back. Then, Rice was suspended by the NFL for the first two games of the season (two games? seriously?) and responded by calling himself a role model because delusional.
Now, news is coming out of Raves training camp about Rice, and things aren’t looking good. According to ESPN’s Jamison Hensley, Rice has been outplayed by back-up Bernard Pierce so far.
Bernard Pierce has been the best running back in camp. He played in a similar running scheme in college, and he has had the best transition to Kubiak’s stretch, zone-blocking runs.
As someone who is likely on very thin ice, this news couldn’t be any worse for Rice. With Pierce guaranteed of starting the first two games of the season while Rice is suspended, there is a good opportunity for him to seize the lead back role. The two split carries last season with Rice getting the majority of touches, but a good performance in the Pro Bowler’s absence could change things quickly.
