Women are slowly, but surely making strides in professional sports and especially in the NBA. Last week is was announced that Michele Roberts would be the first female director of the NBPA and today the Spurs named retiring WNBA star Becky Hammon the first female assistant NBA coach.
Spurs have named retiring WNBA star Becky Hammon an assistant coach. The Spurs, once again, being the Spurs. A step ahead.

“I very much look forward to the addition of Becky Hammon to our staff,” said Spurs Head Coach Gregg Popovich. “Having observed her working with our team this past season, I’m confident her basketball IQ, work ethic and interpersonal skills will be a great benefit to the Spurs.”
Hammond spent most of her WNBA careers with the San Antonio Stars where she is their all-time leader in assists and 3-point field goals made.
This is great news coming out of San Antonio and shows why Coach Pop will be one of the best to ever do it.
