The debate around banning ‘Redskins’ rages on. There have been Native Americans, fans, and even politicians that have called for Washington to change their name. Of course Dan Snyder won’t be doing this until someone comes after his pockets but that isn’t stopping people from trying.
Next up is the University of Minnesota. You may be wondering why they care at all but you have to remember that the Vikings will be playing there while their new stadium is being built. They don’t want ‘Redskins’ to be used in any promotional or game day materials:
The University of Minnesota is working with the Minnesota Vikings in an effort to keep the Washington Redskins’ name from being used in “promotional and game date materials” during the NFL teams’ Nov. 2 game at the school’s stadium in Minneapolis, according to an Aug. 1 letter from university President Eric Kaler to U.S. Rep. Betty McCollum, D-Minn.
This is the University’s right to do this. Quite frankly, it is one of the few steps that would actually somewhat influence Snyder’s bank statement. It will be interesting to see the reaction to this though. Are the Gophers taking a stand or are they reaching?
