With the New England Patriots heading to Minnesota to face the Vikings on Sunday, Patriots head coach Bill Belichick was asked if he regrets anything about trading away the draft pick that the Vikings used to take star receiver Cordarrelle Patterson out of Tennessee.
“We made the decision based on what we felt was best for our team,” Belichick said. “That’s what we always do. We felt like at that time it would be the best thing for our team, and that’s what we did.”
The Vikings sent their second-round, third-round and fourth-round picks, in addition to a seventh-rounder to New England for the No. 29 pick, which Minnesota used to draft Patterson. The Patriots used the picks to draft linebacker Jamie Collins, cornerback Logan Ryan and wide receiver Josh Boyce. They shipped the seventh-round pick to Tampa Bay for Legarrette Blount (who is currently toting the rock for the Pittsburgh Steelers).
Of course Belichick can’t be blamed for stockpiling picks during the draft, however he can be criticized for not having a significant outside, consistent threat for quarterback Tom Brady since Randy Moss was there.
