Another day and more details on moments before Rob Bironas’ fatal crash. There are new allegations from some students who said they had a run in with Bironas before the accident. A car of four students had their confrontation with Bironas just before his encounter with the couple we reported on earlier. One of the students, 20-year-old Connor Fraley, gave his account early Tuesday morning. Fraley says he was a passenger in a vehicle driving behind Bironas when they noticed a weird burning smell coming from Bironas’ exhaust.
“His window was down, and we pulled up and I said, “Hey man, just a heads up, something’s burning from your exhaust. Your exhaust smells horrible, just wanted to let you know,’’ Fraley recalled telling Bironas. “He looked over at me and said “I’m going to kill everybody in your (expletive) vehicle. It was so random, so bizarre I was like, “What?” And he said the exact same thing again.”
This allegedly led to a chase as Bironas followed the Ford F-150 the students were driving in. Fraley’s account continued.
“He tried to sideswipe the vehicle and missed us by a foot. The girls in the back seat were starting to freak out because he was swerving on the road in between lanes, all over the place.’’ Fraley said. “We had no idea who he was and why he was trying to harm us. It was a fight or flight situation and, unfortunately, we had to take flight at about 110 miles per hour. It was very scary.”
Seems sketchy that he would just go after a truck full of students and threaten to kill them like this. I don’t know if Fraley is being 100% truthful with his account although reportedly the driver of the vehicle gave an identical account. Still, I tend to believe he’s leaving something out that caused Bironas to become enraged. That would explain his surly attitude to the older couple he encountered later.
