LeSean McCoy hasn’t had the best start in the NFL, he’s currently being outshined by the back up veteran, Darren Sproles. Despite, his slow start, Philly Head Coach, Chip Kelly, isn’t too concerned. If you’re starting 3-0 with a QB who’s only getting better, why would you be?
“No, we haven’t had any conversations about it,” Kelly told reporters on Wednesday regarding McCoy’s potential frustration level. “One thing I know about LeSean and everybody loves is he wants to win. I know he knows we’re 3‑0. He’s had more carries this year in the first three games than he had last year. But obviously the same five guys blocking for him is part of it to do with it. We’ve got to do a better job in the run game just overall, but I think he’s excited that we’re 3‑0. Sometimes they come in bunches and you can string a couple games back‑to‑back.”
LeSean McCoy this year has only averaged 2.9 whereas last year, it was 6.3. You can see why he’s frustrated. If what Chip Kelly says is true concerning LeSean loving to win, you will understand why he feels his contribution isn’t enough. As an athlete, you want to give 100%, sometimes even more. Each game you challenge yourself and when you come up short, it bothers you; you know you’re better.
It is good to see a coach confident in a player, knowing that he will prevail despite his start. Hopefully, McCoy will get his running game together and be the best RB he claims to be.
