Jim Irsay has reached a plea deal in his Operating While Intoxicated case per Mark Alesia of the Indianapolis Star. Irsay’s plea is guilty to one misdemeanor, but can be upgraded to a felony if OWI happens again within 5 years. Irsay’s toxicology report shows that he tested positive for oxycodone and hydrocodone. He will be subject to drug testing during his one year probation period. According to the prosecutor, felony charges were not immediately filed because Irsay showed a prescription for his pills. It will be very interesting to see how commissioner Roger Goodell chooses to handle the disciplinary actions with Irsay after this new wrinkle to the story.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Goodell cannot fine Jim Irsay more thant 500,000 dollars under the NFL constitution, unless he went to the owners to request heavier penalties.
