When you start a season as bad as this year’s 0-2 Tampa Bay Buccaneers have, you’d better be looking to make some changes if you’re head coach and value your employment, and according to ESPN Lovie Smith is looking to do just that. After Thursday night’s 56-14 drubbing at the hands of the Atlanta Falcons, Smith mentioned that changes to the team/staff would be in the realm of possibility. Earlier this afternoon during Smith’s presser he was asked to elaborate on his comments:
“I stay by what I said then,” Smith said. “When you get beat that bad, you need to make changes. Maybe that’s personnel, maybe it’s not. You’re looking at all areas.”
One change was made for him courtesy of the Falcons pass rush. Starting QB Josh McCown sprained a thumb on a player’s helmet and is expected to miss at least one week; paving the way for second-year backup Mike Glennon to get the start.
It can’t get any worse for Tampa Bay right now so I’d be willing to bet the new signal caller is a welcomed sight.
