A true Yankees fan would have found any way to be at Yankees Stadium last night to say goodbye to Derek Jeter. Mets pitcher Matt Harvey grew up in New York in the 90’s, and even though the Mets were finishing up the second game in a double-header against the Nationals, Harvey found his way to Yankee Stadium.
Tonight is about #RE2PECT!! Saying farewell and paying the man this game has been blessed to have! A childhood idol and it’s now an honor to call a friend!!! #derekjeter
In Harvey’s defense, he is recovering from Tommy John’s surgery and hasn’t really traveled with the team this year.
Newsday’s Marc Carig asked Mets manager Terry Collins if he had an issue with the 25-year-old attending Jeter’s last game, to which he responded “not really.” When asked the same question, Mets GM Sandy Alderson said “no comment.”
It sounds like the Mets front office has differing opinions on Harvey’s attendance to the game.
