Kirk Cousins is playing lights out football and seems to be a better fit in Washington D.C.
The question has to be asked then, if Cousins does indeed remain the Redskins starter, what does the organization do with Robert Griffin III?
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported on NFL Total Access Kickoff Thursday, that even though Redskins officials believe RG3 is the better player, they do believe he’d accept the role of backup quarterback if need be.
“They do concede that Robert Griffin III is the better overall player and certainly more talented” Rapoport said on NFL Total Access Kickoff Thursday. “The thought is that Cousins might be a better fit for this system.”
Griffin got the cast off his ankle last week, and won’t be ready to play for five or six weeks. Cousins could prove worthy of the starting job by then.
“If that happens, they firmly believe RGIII will handle it well. And he will be good on the sidelines,” Rapoport said, noting that the team sees Griffin as a “team guy.”
The groundwork is being laid for the Redskins to keep Cousins as starter if he performs well, it also sets up the possibility that one of them could be moved in the offseason.
Making Griffin III seem like the good soldier could possibly make it easier for another organization to trade for him.
