A couple of things about this video provided by Deadspin from ESPN 1st Take.
Before we get into the things Stephen A. Smith actually said, I need to point something out. Just because you are the loudest person in the room, doesn’t make you the smartest person in the room. Personally, I tune out screamers, regardless if their point is valid or not. I know that is Stephen A’s thing to yell and rant and maybe that is good for ratings, but it isn’t actually good if you want people to hear you out. You can make your points clearer without yelling and name calling, but for the sake of the post, let’s attempt to decipher what Stephen A. Smith is talking about.
The interesting thing is before he started yelling, he made the only point he needed to make. If there is evidence that Goodell is lying about his knowledge of the Ray Rice video or he some way wanted to make sure it didn’t come to light, then he should be gone. At the moment we don’t have a smoking gun, even though it appears obvious that the NFL didn’t do everything in their power to get the tape.
As far as NOW, are the using the situation for PR? Probably, but does that mean the situation doesn’t need addressing, of course not. If it took Ray Rice knocking out his wife in an elevator to let not just the NFL, but our society as a whole take a stronger look at domestic violence then so be it.
Stephen A. Smith could have made his point about NOW and Goodell without screaming for three minutes and then plugging his show, but that is what happens when you are playing a WWE role on TV.
