That didn’t take long for Gruden’s name to be brought up as the Raiders next coach nor is it to anyones surprise.
With the firing of Dennis Allen after his 8-28 record with the Raiders, Mark Davis is looking to return the famed coach, Jon Gruden, back to the field. According to Profootball Talk, look for Davis to make Gruden an offer he can’t refuse.
Given the current state of the franchise, which hasn’t made the playoffs since Gruden beat them in the Super Bowl after the 2002 season, Gruden may have no interest. But if Davis were to offer Gruden significantly more money than ESPN is paying him, and offer Gruden the authority to oversee the personnel department and pick his own players, it could pique Gruden’s interest.
Gruden loves commentating for ESPN. His ability to break down teams is unmatched so it would be interesting to see him leave ESPN to go back to the Raiders. It has also been said that if Gruden says no… Jim Harbaugh is their next choice. Mark Davis seems to be going big to make his team a contender.
