Injured WWE superstar Darren Young has passive aggressively “called out” the WWE after their media garnering Michael Sam invitation. Darren Young took to Twitter and retweeted the following from fans:
Darren Young is an openly gay WWE wrestler that came out last year. It was immediately followed by a conga line of congratulations from the who’s-who of the company. Well, Darren Young coming out was never even acknowledged on WWE programming while the WWE “sent” an invitation for Michael Sam to come to WWE Raw next week to have an open floor.
If the WWE wants to use the openly gay storyline they have the perfect superstar to do it. Young is a good in ring worker and I believe could be a huge star if they played this correctly but the WWE is hesitant on doing any story lines centered around this. They’ve had issues in the past during their edgier days. I partially understand why the WWE doesn’t want to build a storyline around this.
You see having Michael Sam would just be a one shot deal that would get national headlines and eyes on the product. Cuts would be played on the news and ESPN. Then Michael Sam would be gone.
Darren Young having an open forum would definitely make news and ESPN, although the reach wouldn’t be as far, but then the WWE would have to run any angle at that point with Darren Young walking on egg shells so as not to accidentally infuriate anyone. Darren Young probably won’t be punished for this, as he has probably guaranteed himself a job for life when he came out, but I hope WWE goes for something here. They have a superstar waiting to happen.
