Anderson Silva, 39, hasn’t fought since breaking his leg a year ago but that isn’t stopping him from signing a new deal with the UFC.
“I had seven fights on my contract,” Silva told Combate. “I met (UFC executives) Lorenzo (Fertitta) and Dana (White) on Thursday, and that contract was canceled. We signed for another 15 fights. To make Dana crazy, I signed for 15 more fights. And to make my family crazy too.”
Silva doesn’t have to complete the 15 fight deal; it just signifies that Silva will retire a UFC fighter and won’t fight for any other promotion. Silva’s next fight will give everyone a better idea of whether he is truly able to be a top level fighter again. Silva will take on Nick Diaz at UFC 183 in late January.
It’ll be nice to see the Spider back in the octagon and hopefully a 3rd instalment of Silva – Weidman is possible.
