Sonnen was once the biggest loud mouth in the UFC but PEDs, injuries, and lies got him cut from the promotion. If Chael could’ve seen what would become of his UFC career a few years sooner maybe he would’ve taken Vince McMahon up on an offer to join the WWE.
Hindsight is 50/50 they say.
Chael spoke about the WWE offer on the latest episode of his podcast:
“I was offered $5 million [WWE head] Vince McMahon…Now, I was still under contract with the UFC and I never took this to Dana. I handled it on my own. I told them ‘No’ and that was the end of that. I never told Dana White this story, but here’s why I didn’t tell him. I knew if I called Dana and said, ‘I’ve got a $5 million offer from Vince McMahon,’ Dana would have matched it.”
Chael would’ve made a great heel in the WWE. Him, Mark Henry, and a re-signed Kurt Angle could’ve had an amazing rivalry with the now disbanded Shield. Alas, we will never get to see “The Bad Guy” Chael Sonnen grace the squared circle.
