New Cavaliers coach Dave Blatt said he was planning to reduce the amount of minutes LeBron James played each game. However, it didn’t go quite as planned on Thursday against the Knicks. James, along with Kyrie Irving, Kevin Love and Dion Waiters, all played 43 minutes.
On the other hand, key reserves like Shawn Marion and Mike Miller played just 10 and 3 minutes. Blatt is owning up to the error.
“It wasn’t by design; it was flow of the game,” Blatt said. “That’s on me. Those guys need to play more.”
The Cavs have a long way to go before they get to be the team that everyone imagines they will be. For now, you can look for Blatt to find better ways of giving his key players more rest during games and getting the reserves more playing time.
